We went for the city. Then I looked left.
An open gate, a birthday sunrise, and a view we hadn’t gone looking for.

Let me tell you about this photo right here!
Ryan and I had started a birthday tradition: heading out for sunrise photos. In 2017, that took us to Mt Tam, north of San Francisco. The gate is normally locked before sunrise, but that morning it was open. We drove up hoping to see fog over the city.
We got the view we came for. There was great fog over San Francisco, off to the right. Then I looked left.
Fog was moving toward the Richmond Bridge. Seeing it that far inland was a rare treat, and watching it from that height was something else.
From up there, everything looked small. The bridge stretched across the water while the fog moved around it. That’s what stayed with me: the scale of the landscape, and nature flowing around everything we’d built.
For your wall
If you love the Bay Area in the fog, this photograph offers a view you can spend some time with. It’s available as a made-to-order ChromaLuxe metal print. Take a closer look and choose the size that works for your wall.
